How to Plan the Perfect Bridal Shower

Bridal showers can be fun, memorable events, or they can be boring and tiresome. It all depends on the mood set by the hostess, and the little details that insure an enjoyable time for the guest of honor, her family and friends. Take a little extra time to make the shower you're planning a perfect affair--one that leaves guests saying, "That was fun!"

1. Surf the web, visiting websites' message boards and chat rooms that feature individual planners' unique thoughts and ideas. There is a great amount of information out there--from themes to games to gift ideas, you'll find great suggestions online.

2. Consider sending e-invitations for a trendy, affordable twist. Sites like evite offer great designs to cover your bride-to-be's party.

3. Choose a different theme--something guests may not have seen, or don't expect, and something the bride will love. You'll likely have ideas of your own, but some include hosting a personal shower, sometimes called a lingerie shower, a gift basket shower, or a shower centered around a season or room of the house. Tie your theme into everything you do; it creates excitement and interest.

4. Have fun selecting your menu. Consider a brunch, a cocktail party or a chocolate feast.

5. Plan amusing and interactive activities that center around knowing the bride and making her laugh. A trivia game about the bride or couple can be fun. Quizzing the groom in advance and asking the bride to answer questions about him--similar to the Newlywed Game--can create hysterical moments. Taking it a step further, play a dirty version of Pin the Tail on the Donkey. Consider your audience and the bride's wishes before crossing that line.

6. Provide guests with fun favors that tie into the theme. Everyone loves a food gift--a treat or small piece of candy. For outdoor showers, a small plant with a personalized, decorated pot is another idea. The point is for guests to leave with a small something that reminds them of this fun, unique event.
