Playrooms in most houses are areas where parents merely dump a bunch of their children's toys without any thought given to how to decorate the room. Playrooms should be fun, functional and pleasing to look at as well. To makeover a child's playroom, follow these steps.

From Quick Guide: Build a Playroom
Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get rid of all the excess. If you have toys in the playroom that have not been used in ages, box them up for a yard sale or donate to an organization that accepts toys.

  2. Step 2

Organize all of the toys into categories. Arts and crafts should stay together, while board games should be placed in a designated area.

  3. Step 3

Create more storage. The easiest way to makeover a playroom is to make more storage space for the children's playthings. Small cabinets, bookshelves and lightweight cartons can all add much needed storage capacity to a playroom.

  4. Step 4

Choose an appropriate paint color. White walls are a bad idea for a playroom, especially if you have little hands that are sure to dirty the walls. Choose a dark color instead, such as blue or green.

  5. Step 5

Place usable items on the walls. Cork boards, magnetic boards and drawing paper can all be hung on the walls to create a fun, functional look.

  6. Step 6

Put a matching throw rug on the floor. The rug should match the walls and be easy to clean.

Tips & Warnings
  • If children of different sexes are sharing the playroom space, the colors that you use to decorate the playroom should not be gender specific.
  • You should place labels on all toy containers in order to encourage the children to return their toys to the right place.
