This 132-acre campus is described as "a city within a city" as it employs 12,000 faculty and staff and about 34,000 students in 15 different programs, including Business, Medicine and Information Sciences to name a few. Read the steps for taking a tour of this popular campus.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
From the University of Pittsburgh homepage, choose the link for "Future Students." At this page, select the link for "Campus Visits."
Step2
Go to the Admissions and Financial Aid page. Select the "Schedule a Visit" link. Fill out the registration form with your name, address, phone number, email and desired entry date. Hit "Submit" to complete the visitor registration form. You can also call the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid to plan a visit.
Step3
Next, read the color-coded calendar to decide on a day and a time. Decide whether you want to go on a group tour or a personal tour. Times for the tour are held every hour from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Step4
Go to the student-led walking tour. This gives you a view of campus life from a current student's point of view. The tour starts at the lobby of the Office of Admissions and Financial Aid and takes you to buildings such as the Heinz Memorial Chapel, the Mellon Institute, the Information Sciences Building and the Petersen Events Center. The tour takes approximately 90 minutes.

Tips & Warnings

  • There are plenty of hotels around the University of Pittsburgh for families who have traveled long distance. Go to the "Lodging Information" link of the Admissions and Financial Aid page to see a list of hotels. Call the hotel of your choice to make a reservation if you prefer to spend a weekend in the city.
  • Future students can sit in on a class in addition to attending a group information session. Check the fall, spring or summer schedule and go to the building and room where the class is held. This will give you a feel for what a college class is like compared to a high school class.
