Things You'll Need:
- phillips screwdriver
- saw
- pliers
-
Step 1
getting organisedfirst you need some new speakers to go in the doors (10cm) then you need to arrange all of your required kit on a towel or blanket under the door to be worked on ( the reason will become apparent later - honestly). I would start on the passenger side as there are fewer electrical connections on the passenger side usually
-
Step 2
then you need to locate the screws holding the door panel in place - one at the top of the door one side...
-
Step 3
...and one on the other side...
-
Step 4
...one to hold the cover in behind the interior handle...
-
Step 5
..and two behind it, having slid the cover off by pulling down and twisting it at the same time...
-
Step 6
... then pull the entire door panel up by about an inch to release the catches shown in the picture...
-
Step 7
... then you need to let the door panel hang forward while you undo the electrical connectors on the back of the door panel - this is why you put all your tools in reach of you on a towel, you don't want to damage the door panel on the ground and you cant walk off to get your tools if you have not got the connectors out yet - You can leave the white rubber cable from the top of the door this does not need to be removed.
-
Step 8
undo the old speaker with the screwdriver, take the connecting audio wires off and remove from the panel
-
Step 9
at this point you need to check that the outer collar of your new speaker is larger than the old one so it will hold it in place when the frame of the old speaker holds it in place
-
Step 10
if it looks ok, to get the collar off the old speaker (so you can reuse it to hold your new speaker in place) you need to take the saw to it!! A drastic step I know but Audis have only 3 anchor points for their own speakers where all after market ones come with 4 so normally you have to buy an adaptor for about £15!
-
Step 11
take the collar and tidy it up a bit before using it
-
Step 12
assemble the old and new parts as shown the screw the old collar back into place with the old screws and it sandwiches the new speakers collar firmly in place
-
Step 13
put everything back together in the opposite order then get round the other side and finish the job off!
