First, you must choose a subject for your video. Instructional videos are some of the best kinds of videos to sell. Almost any area of expertise can be the subject of a successful video. It could be anything from cooking, martial arts or real estate. And, if you're not an expert, you can just hire one to be in it.
Step2
Plan out the video. Figure out how many subgroups there will be. For example, in my backstretching video I market, there is an introduction, about 10 exercises and a conclusion.
Step3
If you own a mini DV camcorder, you're all set. If not you can rent one for a cheap price or if you have absolutely no money, you can find someone with a camera and make them your partner. Once you have your camera and plan, find a place to shoot the video and record it.
Step4
Edit the video. These days most computers come with a basic video editing program. If you want to do a little more, there are programs you can buy that aren't that much. For about $500, you can be well set. The only other concern will be if you have enough storage on your computer. If not, don't worry because you can buy an external drive with plenty of storage for a very reasonable price. It will just connect to your computer with a USB connection. You'll then download the video into the computer and edit it.
Step5
One of the best ways to market your video is on the Internet. If you can't create your own site, you can find web programmers who will work reasonably and create a basic website for you. You can also advertise your video in specialty magazines and you can even consider direct mail.
Tips & Warnings
Be careful to make sure that your lighting and sound are okay, by playing back some test footage before you record the whole video.
If you have a videographer record for you, make sure that he gives you the raw footage immediately after it's done.
If you hire someone to be in the video, then make them sign a release form that clearly states that they understand how much they are being paid.
You can copyright your video for a reasonable fee. Truthfully, there's not much you can do if some criminal in Asia copies and sells your video underground, but a copyright will certainly give you protection here in the United States.
