Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse is located in rural Northern Wales near the Dee River. It’s a picturesque course with excellent facilities for jump racing; jump racing events have been taking place here since 1859 and there are 15 fixtures annually. Bangor-on-Dee is the only horse racing venue in the U.K. without a grandstand.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Internet connection
  • Phone
  • Credit card
  • Cash
  • Smart clothes
  • Admission ticket

Step1
Check the fixtures for the Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse season on the racecourse website and find out each day’s racing program.
Step2
Choose your enclosure. As Bangor-on-Dee does not have a grandstand, you only have a choice between the Paddock Enclosure and the Course Enclosure. Both enclosures offer a first-rate view of the race-tracks.
Step3
Buy a ticket to the Paddock Enclosure and get access to the pre-parade ring, parade ring and winner enclosure. You can also avail of excellent hospitality at the glass-fronted Paddock Restaurant, Wynnstay Restaurant and private suites at the Marquees, Chalets and Dee Suite.
Step4
Buy a ticket to the Course Enclosure and enjoy a picnic while the horses thunder past. You can upgrade from Course Enclosure to Paddock Enclosure on Race Day, if you like.
Step5
Make your ticket booking online from the Bangor-on-Dee website. You get a discount on the price of the tickets if you book in advance. Make your booking for enclosure badges several days before the race meeting you want to attend. This will ensure that you will receive them in time.
Step6
Take the A525 or the A483 motorways to Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse. The racecourse is located close to Wrexham, Whitchurch and Chester. If you go by train, there is a free shuttle bus from Wrexham General Station to Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse. Just show your railway ticket before you board.
Step7
Air your smart casuals for a day at the race course. Bangor-on-Dee does not have a dress code, but everyone always comes dressed well.

Tips & Warnings

  • The Dee Festival takes place in September. You can enjoy jump racing at the Racecourse on 14th September and flat racing at the nearby Chester County Concourse the following day.
  • Facilities for disabled visitors are available at Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse.
  • If you come by helicopter, you can land in Course Enclosure by prior arrangement.
  • You cannot bring dogs into the Paddock Enclosure on Race Days. You can bring them along in the Course Enclosure as long as you keep them on a leash.
  • The Racecourse won’t replace tickets if you lose them.
