If you are an outdoor buff and need to get your weekly hike in but have found yourself in this crazy city of London, fear no more! Hiking trails are only a click away! One of the best ways to go for a hike is to join a walking/hiking club, and yes, they do exist in London or nearby. Walking/hiking clubs offer you the flexibility of going once or more per week and also organise weekends or day trips to go on some really cool hikes!

Things You’ll Need:

Get in shape!

Step1
Get in shape! Hiking is an amazing cardiovascular activity and will help you tone, trim and build endurance as well as burn fat. This is a really great activity to undertake if you have some extra pounds to shed or if you want to maintain your trim waistline.
Step2
Get there! A website listing city and nearby parks is in the resources section. Walking clubs are also mentioned on that list. Also, another website has been listed if you would like to join a walking/hiking club that coordinates people in your area. This is done for a very small fee per year and it’s also a great way to meet new people.

If going solo is more for you, don’t fret. There’s information to be found here and loads more on the internet!

London and nearby cities have so many parks from which you could choose to go hiking. Also, don’t forget about the English countryside; there are many places in which a good hike would be a fantastic start to your day. Don’t count out short breaks or weekend hiking getaways! What better way to rejuvenate and get out of the city? Internet forums are also a great resource for finding like-minded people in your area who enjoy hiking as well.
Step3
Planning your hike and the people with whom you are going.
For avid hikers, there is the gorgeous Lake Country with its riveting views and peaceful “out of the city” feel. If you need something more vigorous and challenging, you may wish to try a hike in the Peak district.

If you fancy more of a tour for your hiking activity, you may wish to look into an independent hiking tour. These tours offer “hotel to hotel,” services, so you can travel outside of London and have your baggage transported for you while you enjoy the day. Check the second website in the resources section for more information.
Step4
Once you have found a park near London in which to go for your hike, take whatever supplies you need with you. Keep yourself hydrated and if it’s a nice day, take a few picnic supplies.

Tips & Warnings

  • Stay hydrated and keep your feet protected with the right hiking boots or shoes.
  • If you are a novice hiker, check with your physician before beginning any type of rigorous activity.
  • Additionally, it may be wise to partner with a friend and make this part of your "keep fit" regime.
