How to Plan a Trip to Joe Pool Lake, Texas

Lake Joe Pool is located in Cedar Hill State Park, between Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas. Joe Pool is a reservoir with full functioning marinas. There is, however, much more than just boating at Lake Joe Pool. Plan to spend a day at Joe Pool, and you might just end up staying for the weekend.

Things You'll Need:

  • Picnic
  • Food prep supplies
  • Swimming suit
  • Towel
  • Sunscreen
  • Fishing gear
  • Fishing license
  • Boat
  • Hiking shoes
  • Toiletries
  • Clean clothes
  1. Step 1

    Spend the day at Cedar Hill State Park. Pay a small fee for entry into the park, and enjoy a variety of activities in one place.

  2. Step 2

    Pack food for a picnic lunch or barbecue. Put all perishable foods in an ice-filled cooler. Bring everything you will need for food preparation.

  3. Step 3

    Bring or wear a swimming suit. Hang out on the beach the majority of the day.

  4. Step 4

    Bring sturdy hiking shoes. Take a break from the sand and sun while you walk on groomed trails through the park.

  5. Step 5

    Bring a fishing pole and tackle. Get a fishing license. Bring a separate ice filled cooler for any fish you take home.

  6. Step 6

    Rent a boat in the Dallas area. Put the boat in at the Cedar Hill Marina. Spend the day water skiing, wake boarding and fishing (see Resources below).

  7. Step 7

    Bring toiletries and clean clothing. Shower in the provided facilities and enjoy a clean trip home. This is especially great for small children that will likely fall asleep after a long day of play.

  • No lifeguard is on duty.
  • Put life preservers on non-swimmers.
