Be sure you have completed at least two years of high school. In Idaho, you cannot apply for your cosmetology license unless you have completed your sophomore year in high school.

Be at least 16 1/2 years old when you apply for your cosmetology license. The state of Idaho will not consider people who are younger for their cosmetology license.

If you are moving to Idaho and you have a cosmetology license from another state, you may be able to get an Idaho license. You must have completed the same amount of training: 2000 course hours or 4000 apprenticeship hours. If you have less training, you must have a license and have five years of work experience to get licensed in Idaho.
Make sure that the school or company where you are doing your apprenticeship registers you with the Idaho Board of Cosmetology within five days of after you start training. If you do not get registered, the state might not accept all of your hours.
