Things You'll Need
- 1 stick softened butter
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- 2/3 cup condensed milk
- 5 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp. salt
- Yellow food coloring
- 8 oz. chopped semi-sweet chocolate
- 2 tsp. shortening
- 2 forks
- Electric mixer
- Baking pan
- Aluminum foil
Instructions
-
-
1
Mix butter, salt, vanilla extract and evaporated milk in a bowl. Use an electric mixer for about three minutes, until it is smooth.
-
2
Stir in five cups of powdered sugar, a little at a time. Continue to mix with mixer until smooth. Add more powdered sugar until the mixture is firm. It should not be stiff.
-
-
3
Remove 1/4 of the mixture, and add yellow food coloring to it. This will be the "yolk" part of the egg.
-
4
Roll the yellow mixture into about 15 balls. Then take the white mixture and make 15 larger balls. Roll the white balls out flat.
-
5
Wrap the white flattened mixture around the yellow balls, one at a time. Mold them into egg shapes and set them on a baking sheet covered in aluminum foil.
-
6
Place the eggs in the refrigerator for about one hour or until they are very firm.
-
7
Microwave the chocolate and shortening together until the mixture resolves into a smooth liquid. Dip the eggs into the chocolate mixture using two forks. Place them back into the refrigerator until they are hardened, or for about 20 minutes.

Wow, what a great idea! Homemade fondant easter eggs would be a nice personal touch to an easter basket, and doing this is probably cheaper than buying them in the store. -
