    Instructions

      • 1

Visit a pet store like Petco, Petsmart, or your local store. Betta fish aren't something that you should buy over the Internet.

      • 2

View the fish and simply pick your favorite. There isn't much in the way of making a choice other than finding which one you like. Most Betta fish come in self-contained containers; they cannot be in the same tank with other Betta fish since hey will attack each other. Consider buying multiple fish to spread out over your home.

      • 3

Purchase supplies for your Betta fish at the pet store. The great news about Betta fish is that they require very little in their bowl, though you can buy rocks, trees, treasure chests or other ornaments. Also, Betta's like small areas, so make sure each bowl you buy is intimate. Purchase Betta fish food. Also purchase a "stress coat" to add to the water which will ease the transition of your Betta fish.

      • 4

Add water to your Betta fish bowl and then allow it to come to room temperature before putting the Betta fish in his environment. Be sure to add water from the bowl the Betta fish came in into their new bowl.

    Tips & Warnings

    • Buy different shapes of bowls and place them on your dinner table. Add Betta fish and they become an interesting center piece.

I don't know If I got lucky or what. But I have goton 4 bettas at walmart. I always look for the smallest alert ones with shorter fins. and Mine have lived for 2- 4 years, I asume mine were 6 months to one year old. The ones that look real big and flashy are at least over one years old and I try to avoid these BUT again I like to rescue lol I just bought two males that are at least a year old. In perfect condtions they will live 3-5 years. One of mine was in my home for 4 years and he was snall when I got him. meaning he was probabaly 6 months then. Also you should NOT add the fishes current water to its new water and you should use a mix of tap water with well water. If you have chorine water you need to use the condtionsers I use a mix though of my wella dn spring and float my fish for 20 min in a baggie with his old water floating closed and sealed in the new water I then use a...

This is crazy!! if you want a good betta do the exact opposite of this article, with the exception of using a stress coat conditioner. other than that buy as big a tank as you want certainly 2 gallons minimum because you will need a heater to heat the water to 78-80 degrees. cycle your tank, this will take up to six weeks. don't go to walmart or petco. these stores do not take care of their bettas so if no one buys them all their bettas will die and they will stop selling/abusing them. buy quality bettas online from a reputable breeder please pull this article its been over a year!

This whole thing is garbage. Do some research before writing something like this next time. Betta from places like Petco and Walmart tend to have a lot of health problems and come with unknown lineage. Betta need to be kept at high temperatures, so they should always be kept in heated tanks- not bowls. You should also never throw a fish into an uncycled tank, this can cause many health problems and potentially kill your fish.
