Nothing goes better with a rare steak than a steaming hot baked potato. But unless you plan ahead, your steak will be done long before your baked potato. Follow these steps with your microwave to ensure that they'll appear on your plate at the same time.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Fork
  • Vegetable brush
  1. Step 1

Wash your potato and scrub away dirt and "eyes" with a potato or vegetable brush.

  2. Step 2

Poke holes into your potato using a fork. Be sure to make several on each side of the potato. Without the holes, your potato will explode.

  3. Step 3

Place the potatoes, in the microwave on high for 5 minutes. If cooking 3 or more potatoes, expand this to 7 minutes. Note, this is for an average-sized potato. Adjust time accordingly for size.

  4. Step 4

Let the potato cool for 1 to 2 minutes after it is finished microwaving.

  5. Step 5

Remove the potato from microwave and test it by sticking your fork inside the potato. If it passes through easily, then your potato is ready. If you feel resistance and the potato is still hard inside, microwave for another 2 minutes.

Tips & Warnings
  • Place your potato in the toaster oven for five minutes on "toast" to crisp up the outside skin.
  • Add chives, cheese, bacon and other toppings or fillings to dress up this potato recipe. Cook the potato in the microwave first, add your desired ingredients and then finish in the toaster oven for 2 to 3 minutes.
