Things You'll Need:
- Hand mirror
-
Step 1
Make your child hold a hand mirror, say the word "poo" and see his reflection. Ask him to remember the shape of his lips when they form a small circle and the slight curl of his tongue. Tell him to make the same shape when he whistles.
-
Step 2
Help her retain the "O" shape in her lips and suck in air to feel a low note. Now have her softly blow out the air through the pursed lips without breaking. Ask her to remember how the tip of the tongue stays just behind the front teeth without touching them.
-
Step 3
Tell your child to tighten his lips as he sucks the air. For some kids, sucking alone will produce a note that is loud enough.
-
Step 4
Have your child maintain a normal speed initially while breathing in and out and then gradually increase the pace.
-
Step 5
Encourage her to practice whistling while engaged in other activities.
