How to Collect Nancy Drew Books

The first Nancy Drew books were published in 1930. Since then, Nancy and her friends have been reincarnated in several forms and received a thorough re-editing in the 1950s. She has even been the heroine of many successful films. Follow these steps to add these delightful books to your collection.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Decide which set(s) you wish to collect, the original books consist of numbers 1-34. The same person did not write the books, but Grosset & Dunlap published all. There are other modern versions as well.

  2. Step 2

    Make a list of the titles and copyright years you are looking for. Carry this list with you everywhere. Books published between 1930 and 1959 will have 1930 listed as the copyright date. First editions will also have 25 chapters (books 1-34).

  3. Step 3

    Look closely at pictures of the covers of the titles you wish to collect. Each series looks different so make sure you know what you are looking for.

  4. Step 4

    Search online auction houses such as eBay for books. Be cautious about who you buy from, make sure they are a reputable seller.

  5. Step 5

    Search used bookstores, thrift stores, flea markets and book fairs.

Tips & Warnings
  • Books with dust jackets are very rare. If you find one, buy it.
  • The Simon & Schuster versions, differ these text were printed with the bright yellow covers. The Simon & Schuster versions extend through number 56. There are other modern versions as well.
  • If future monetary value is a priority, buy books in good condition without any marks on the pages.

on 12/4/2008 PBA Galleries specializes in appraisals and auctions of fine and rare books. If you have a Nancy Drew first printing in a jacket, you have a highly collect able book that would sell well at auction.
