Step 1
Choose the correct size for your little girl. Measure your daughter's waist, record it and keep a tape measure in your purse so you can measure waistbands in stores. Properly-fitted inexpensive clothes look better than expensive clothes in the incorrect size.
-
Step 2
Opt for the basics during the preschool years. Little girls are messy at this age and they love to get dirty. Fill her wardrobe with cute pull-over shirts, shorts, skirts and pants. Leave the frilly dresses on the racks.
-
Step 3
Make sure the clothes are easy to clean and need little or no ironing. If the clothing needs to be pressed before she wears it, press it. Don't let her out of the door with a wrinkled shirt or skirt. Kids need to look neat and don't need to feel embarrassed about their clothing.
-
Step 4
Choose clothing that reflects her age and personality. If she likes puppies, get her some shirts with puppies on them. If she likes bows, let her wear bows. Enjoy dressing her like a little girl at this age. It will not last long; treasure it while you can.
-
Step 5
Avoid any revealing shirts. Little girls do not need to be showing off their belly buttons.
-
Step 6
Avoid clothing that makes her look like a teenager. There's a difference between princess sparkles and hoochie-mama "bling."
-
Step 7
Do not let her wear shirts with racy words on them or adult sayings.
-
Step 8
Make sure her clothes match. Little girls should not choose their own clothes in the morning. If she insists, lay out two shirts and two shorts that match and let her choose between them.

on 7/21/2008 Please avoid overalls and belts. They require to much effort on the child's part to undo, this is a good way to avoid bathroom accidents. It is much better to buy elastic waist pants and shorts, than those that snap or button. Children like to be independent.
