The Hawaiian lei is a sign of peace and can be made of shells, seeds, feathers, nuts, flowers and other items. Follow these steps to make a Hawaiian lei.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Scissors
  • 10-inch lei needle
  • 45" piece of carpet thread or dental floss
  • Flowers
  • Plastic bag
  1. Step 1

Collect some flowers. They can be any type, but buy something exotic if you want that tropical feel. You only need the top of the flower, so it is best to cut the stems.

  2. Step 2

Cut 1 45-inch piece of dental floss or carpet thread for each lei. You also can string your flowers with fishing wire or any sturdy string.

  3. Step 3

Loop the string through the 10-inch lei needle. Begin by sticking the needle through the center of each flower. Then string them together.

  4. Step 4

Leave enough room at the ends of the string so that you can tie it securely. Place 4 flowers on at a time to save time.

  5. Step 5

Store your leis in plastic bags and place them in the fridge. It will keep them fresh.
