How to Get Tickets to the Washington Monument

The Washington Monument is an obelisk that soars high above the nation's capital. It was built between 1848 and 1885 to memorialize George Washington, the first U.S. president. Follow these steps to get tickets for a visit.

  1. Step 1

    Make reservations. There are several locations to get your tickets. The tickets are available for the tour hours between 9 a.m. and 4:45 p.m. All tickets are timed tickets and you need to show up a little earlier than the printed time.

  2. Step 2

    Call the Washington Monument reservation number at 1-800-967-2283 to purchase tickets. Advance ticket purchases will require a $1.50 service charge and $.50 shipping and handling fee. This is subject to change, so ask the reservation service what the current price is. The reservation service is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Eastern Time.

  3. Step 3

    Get your tickets at the foot of the Washington Monument. The tickets to tour the Monument are free. The tickets are timed tickets and go quickly on busy travel days.

  4. Step 4

    Get your tickets at the 15th Street Kiosk. There are timed tickets available for purchase a few streets away from the Monument on 15th Street. The tickets are available beginning at 8:30 a.m.

  • Get your tickets well in advance.
  • The Washington Monument follows the same security procedures as the Smithsonian. Make sure you don't have knives or other dangerous objects. Your bags will be checked.
