1. Tap into people's empathy. Everyone can remember a time when they were hard up for money. It's not a good feeling, but it's a universal one.

2. Decide on an acceptable date to return the money, if you plan on returning it. If you don't plan on returning the money, don't pretend that you will. Vague promises of "getting back to you when I'm flush again" will reduce your chances of getting a handout.
