This yearning for the on-air spotlight and a few simple steps can make the job of a radio producer a little easier.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Things You’ll Need:

  • Computer with Internet connection
  • Newspapers and magazines

Step1
Consider your talk show format and audience demographics. Get guests that are appealing to your listeners. If the show is a forum for political news and talk, you don't want to book a pop stars for guest interviews.
Step2
Keep an ear out for guests wherever you go. Listen to people you come into contact with everyday; if they have an interesting story it may be an interview possibility. When reading the newspaper, notice the ads and stories for interview ideas. The Internet makes it possible to easily contact just about any potential guest. There are websites such as Air Talents and Special Guests that list experts on various subjects.
Step3
Design a letter template that invites guests for a radio interview. Include some background information about the radio show and its format, the reason you are requesting an interview and contact information.
Step4
If you have a phone number, call, particularly if the number is for the person's manager or booking agency.
Step5
Track potential guests that you have already contacted. If you don't hear from a prospective guest within a week, try again.
