How to Sleep During the Day

Many of the same guidelines that help us get a good night sleep apply during the day. Millions of people work evenings and must sleep while most of their world is awake. Others need the aid of an afternoon nap to get through a day. You can grab the rest you need if you follow these steps.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Give yourself permission to rest. Don't let societal pressure hinder your need for sleep at anytime.
Step2
Turn off your phone. Voicemail and answering machines were made for these occasions when rest is paramount.
Step3
Listen to your body and lie down when you must. You can receive just as good a rest on the sofa as in the bed.
Step4
Darken the room. Light can be a distraction. Eye coverings have been helping people sleep with lights on for centuries. Use one.
Step5
Dress comfortably, removing shoes and other restrictive clothing.
Step6
A white noise machine like a fan or machine made specifically to emit even, calming noise can drown out unwanted intrusions.

Tips & Warnings

  • Sleep at the same time every day. Your rest will be fuller and more even.

on 1/1/2008 I work a swing shift and I need to sleep at different hours all day. My best tip would be "ear Plugs", I also use a Fan/ heater fan ( a cold room with hot air blowing on me, always pus me to sleep), and a sleep mask.
