Step 1
Give your Manchester Terrier loads of attention. This breed wants to be part of your family and refuses to be ignored.
-
Step 2
Keep your dog out of extreme weather. His short coat doesn't provide enough protection from the cold, and he doesn't care for too much heat, either.
-
Step 3
Trim her nails. Buy "Kwik Stop" at a pet-supply store and standard canine nail clippers. Give your dog a treat to concentrate on while you clip, and apply the "Kwik Stop" if you cut too far. Since most Manchester Terriers have black nails, it will be hard to tell how short to cut at first, but with practice, you'll get a feel for it.
-
Step 4
Brush your Manchester Terrier regularly and use a damp cloth to wipe off dirt. Because these dogs have short coats, they don't need frequent baths.
-
Step 5
Begin house training from day one, and consider crate training.
-
Step 6
Keep him on heartworm prevention. Discuss the costs and benefits of each type with your veterinarian.
-
Step 7
Bring your dog to the vet for yearly checkups after her initial puppy series is complete.
