How to Get Permanent Lipstick

For those who spend a lot of time applying makeup, or who don't like waking up without it, permanent lipstick is a viable option. Permanent lipstick is basically just a color tattoo applied directly to the lips. It is more expensive initially to get permanent lipstick than to buy tube lipstick, but after several years the price will likely end up being cheaper.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Experiment with colors to see what shade of permanent lipstick you want to have applied. Pick a shade that will go with different seasons of makeup and will be appealing to you all year round. Remember that tube lipstick can be applied over the permanent hue for an occasional change of color.

  2. Step 2

Look for a plastic surgery or dermatology office that has experience with applying permanent makeup, instead of a regular tattoo parlor. Choose someone knowledgeable about the application of the lipstick and can help explain the placement and side effects of it.

  3. Step 3

Ask any questions before the lipstick is applied, including the price of touch ups.

  4. Step 4

Get the lipstick applied. Be prepared for some pain associated with the tattooing process.

  5. Step 5

Wait for the pain and redness to fade as the lips heal. Get the color touched up whenever necessary for spot fading.

  6. Step 6

Get your permanent lipstick replaced every 10 years or so, as color tattoos tend to fade far more quickly than the older black pigment ones.

Tips & Warnings
  • Consider getting permanent eyebrow enhancement at the same time the lipstick is done. Eyebrow tattoos are the most popular of all permanent makeup types.

on 1/21/2008 I have had this done and was generally disappointed. 1). You have to first have a few injections to numb your mouth (which hurt like heck). 2) You get a hideous lip scab that lasts at least 2 weeks. 3) The process, done in a salon cost me almost $1,000 and 4) after just 2 years the color faded. Sorry, but personally I DON'T recommend this process at all!
