1
Decide which charter school you want your child to attend. Consider having a back-up school in case your child doesn't get in.
-
2
Gather all of the applications and the required documents needed. Read over everything carefully before filling out the forms.
-
-
3
Fill out the application and accompanying documents completely and accurately. Attach any requested documents to the application. This should include your child's IEP (Individual Education Plan), if they require any special needs.
-
4
Turn in the application, along with any required fees, to the appropriate person.
-
5
Make sure that everything is completed before the open enrollment deadline. Most schools will not consider late applications.
-
6
Keep in mind that many schools do not admit all of the students that apply. Schools will often hold a lottery to choose those that will attend and also use a waiting list system.
-
7
Find out all state requirements for charter schools to make sure you know about the entire enrollment process. Never hesitate to call the principal or administrator to ask questions.

Tips & Warnings
Many schools have a sibling "rule." If one of your children is admitted, the school will put priority on your other children.
Schools often send newsletters to those on the waiting list. This is not an indication that your child is being selected; however, it is a great way to know what is going on at the school.
Some schools require fees to be paid for things like books and supplies, but be wary of schools that require a large amount of money to be paid.
