Step 1
Keep your job. While getting fired may seem like the easiest way to cut your own pay, that's simply not the case. You would then be eligible for unemployment, which means more standing in line and waiting around for money. Instead, you want to keep the job and come up with ways to give the money back to the company.
-
Step 2
Take a lot of time off. You don't want to get fired, but you don't have to work a 40-hour week, either. Come up with a mysterious illness every other week and alternate between that and family emergencies.
-
Step 3
Claim no dependents on your tax return, not even yourself. Uncle Sam needs your tax money to buy $300 toilet seats, so let the government have its fill from your paycheck.
-
Step 4
Pump up your health care plan. Enrolling in your company health plan can easily eat up a quarter or more of your pay, so make sure to take advantage of this pay cut. If you have a spouse and children, expect to cut your own pay by as much as 50 percent.
-
Step 5
Party on the corporate card. Use the corporate card for what it was intended, alcohol and dining out. Rack up as many charges as you can, and make sure to tell bookkeeping that they were all non-business expenses. That way, the money will all come out of your paycheck at the end of the month.
-
Step 6
Break stuff. Depending on where you work, you could easily cut your own pay by simply breaking a few expensive trinkets. For example, try throwing your computer out the window.
