AVI is one of the most common digital video formats. Many digital cameras and camcorders use AVI format for motion video. Converting AVI files to be viewable as DVD format will allow you to watch AVI files on your television through your DVD player.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Purchase and download WinAVI Video Converter from WinAVI.com. You will have to spend a little money; there are not many free software options that are legitimate or reliable.

  2. Step 2

Install WinAVI. There will be a step-by-step dialog that will guide you through the installation.

  3. Step 3

Open WinAVI and enter your registration name and code. You can run the program without registering in a trial mode with full functionality. The only catch is that there will be a large watermark on your video that says you need to register the program and it will make your videos really hard to watch.

  4. Step 4

Click on the "DVD" button in the bottom right corner of the window. This will open a box for you to locate the AVI file you want to convert.

  5. Step 5

Choose your AVI video file and open it. You can click the green plus button to add more videos to be converted to one DVD or the red minus sign to take away files. You can also choose to merge the files to one title, make them separate titles on the same DVD, or create separate DVDs.

  6. Step 6

Browse for your output directory and choose the output format. It should default to DVD so you should not have to change the output format. Click "OK" to continue.

  7. Step 7

Wait for the conversion to finish. This can take a while depending on the size of the file, and there are some options you can select such as having the program shut down your computer when the conversion is finished.

  8. Step 8

Burn your DVD by clicking the button at the bottom left. This will open up a new window and you will have to point it to your output folder you just created so make sure you know where it is. Label your DVD on the right side and then click the "Burn" button to create your DVD.
