Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Step1
Determine which one god you want to believe in. You can believe in the God that created the earth, who is all-knowing and omnipresent. Or you can believe in Buddha. There are even monotheists who have chosen Satan as their god.
Step2
Consider if you want to belong to a specific church or denomination. If you plan to attend a church, you will want to find a church that believes in the same god you do. It would be hard to adopt the Jewish god if you plan to attend a Buddhist congregation.
Step3
Understand the concept of the Trinitarian view. Many religions that practice monotheism believe in the Trinity, often called the Godhead. This belief is based on one God made up of three distinct personalities: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. Trinity literally means "three in one" in the Greek language.
Step4
Evaluate the strict monotheist view. A strict monotheist rejects the idea of the Trinity and instead believes that there is only one god with one distinct personality. In this view neither Christ nor the Holy Spirit has any authority as part of God.
Step5
Choose your view. Once you understand the two main viewpoints of monotheism, decide which direction you want to pursue. Regardless of your choice of view, once you have established one god to believe in you are a monotheist.
