How to Win Every Time at 3D Tic-Tac-Toe

3D Tic-Tac-Toe is a three dimensional version of the classic Tic-Tac-Toe game. Each of the three dimensions has nine squares with a total of twenty seven. The player wins the game by getting three in a row on any dimension or between dimensions. As long as the two first moves follow the steps below, you will win every time.

Instructions

    • 1

      Start the Tic-Tac-Toe game.

    • 2

Go first. The player who makes the first move in a game of 3D Tic-Tac-Toe will always be able to win if the move is done correctly.

    • 3

Place your "X" in the central cube. This is the middle cube in the middle dimension.

    • 4

Let your opponent "O" go anywhere on the board, it doesn't matter.

    • 5

Place your "X" in another middle cube as your second move. In this example, select the middle square in the top dimension. You can select either the top or the bottom dimensions, if they are both empty.

    • 6

Choose another square as your third move. That will allow you to win two different ways, assuming "O" has blocked you by putting the "O" mark in the bottom middle square. In this example, select the bottom square farthest to the left in the top dimension.

    • 7

Place your "X" in the move that remains from the two possible wins after "O" has blocked you as your last and final move. In this case, put "X" in the top square farthest to the right in the top dimension or in the top square farthest to the right in the bottom dimension. You win!

Tips & Warnings

  • Unlike the classic version it is mathematically impossible to have a "draw" game in 3D Tic-Tac-Toe.
