How to Make Moving Easier

Moving into a new home can be stressful. The entire process is very time consuming and takes a lot of work. It's helpful to have a moving strategy ready before you actual begin your move. Create a plan to make your move easier by following these simple steps.

Instructions

    • 1

Create a timeline. Count backwards from your move in date to determine when you need to start packing and organizing. Give yourself plenty of time to get everything done.

    • 2

Start packing the things you don't use on a regular basis well before the move. Knick knacks, off-season clothing and other rarely used items can be safely packed away in boxes long before the actual moving date.

    • 3

Throw away or donate items that you no longer use. Or hold a garage sale and make some extra cash. It makes more sense than packing these items up and hauling them to a new place where they will continue to be of no use to you.

    • 4

Decide whether or not to hire movers. If you have any financial concerns, professional movers may not be an option. However, to some people, it's well worth the cost to avoid the work and stress moving involves. If you don't use a moving company, arrange to rent a truck of adequate size to transport all of your things.

    • 5

Label your boxes. Use a marker or something that's easy to read. You can either label boxes by content or by room. Include notes on the box, such as "fragile" or "open first." Well labeled boxes make moving much easier.
