Hiking, camping and building a fire are a few activities you may do if you become a Cub Scout. You may also learn to whittle and to make a tool box or birdhouse. Designed for boys seven to twelve years old, the Cub Scout program is built around exploring the outdoors, learning about the world and teaching you to be a better person. To be a Cub Scout, follow these steps.

From Quick Guide: Become a Boy Scout
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Ask a Cub Scout you know about Cub Scouting. See if it sounds like fun to you. If it does, tell him you would like to come to a den meeting and ask him for the name and phone number of his den leader.

  2. Step 2

Contact your local Boy Scouts of America Council if you don't know any Cub Scouts. They will give you the name and phone number of a den leader in your area.

  3. Step 3

Call the den leader and tell him why you want to be a Cub Scout. Ask him when the next den meeting is and make arrangements to attend.

  4. Step 4

Attend the den meeting and participate in the activities. If you enjoy the experience and decide you would like to join, tell your parent or guardian. Your parent or guardian needs to know that being a Cub Scout is a family activity and they may need to attend some of the meetings. If they have questions, they can talk to the den leader about it.

  5. Step 5

Call your den leader after you get your parent or guardian's permission to join. The den leader will tell you when the next den meeting is, how much the yearly dues are and what kind of uniform you should buy. If you can't afford to buy a uniform, he may have a used uniform that you could have.

  6. Step 6

Purchase a Cub Scout uniform from your nearest Boy Scout store or the Boy Scouts of America retail catalog. Make sure you buy the right numbers to display your correct pack number and den number on your uniform. If you go to the store, a clerk will help you with this.

  7. Step 7

Attend the next Cub Scout meeting, get any needed paperwork from your den leader and pay your yearly dues. Be a Cub Scout and have fun!
