Things You'll Need:
- Linen
- Needles
- Embroidery thread
- Buttons
-
Step 1
Get two square pieces of linen, suitable for cross-stitching. A typical size is 4" by 4" (10 cm by 10 cm), at 12 threads per centimeter.
-
Step 2
Cross-stitch a design on each square. A typical size is 35 by 35 squares, though designs can be any size, as long as both are equal, and result in two identically sized, finished pieces of embroidery.
-
Step 3
Create a sewing edge by doing a backstitch square around each design. Be sure that the squares are exactly the same size. Cut the fabric 7 mm from the backstitching and fold the edge toward the back of the embroidery, along the backstitched line on one side.
-
Step 4
Place a pin in the center of one side of square A. On square B, take two strands of embroidery thread and attach the threads from the back of its corner to the threads of the center side of square A. Be careful not to go through the fabric; just pass the needle through the backstitching. At this point you will have begun the process of uniting the two pieces. Your biscornu begins to take shape.
-
Step 5
Work from right to left, stitching through the backstitching without going through the fabric at any time. When you get to the corner, you will need to stitch more than once through one of the backstitches; this will be unnoticeable later.
-
Step 6
Stitch the first six sides, leaving an opening for the stuffing. Add stuffing, being sure to completely fill the pillow. Note the pillow now has eight sides.
-
Step 7
Finish stitching sides seven and eight. Tie off the thread, then sew one button to the top of the cushion and another to the bottom. As you go back and forth through the buttons, pull the thread tightly, so as to create a dent in each side. Your biscornu is ready to use!
