If you enjoy being around exotic animals, then there is no better job for you than zookeeping. The process of becoming a zookeeper may be more involved than you think, but although it's not the best paying job in the world, it can be quite a satisfying one.

From Quick Guide: Visit the Zoo
Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Get experience working with animals. Often, this is more important than education. Work or volunteer at veterinary offices, zoos, animal shelters or farms.

  2. Step 2

Study biology, zoology, primatology or animal science. A four year degree will make you more competitive in your job hunt, but it isn't always necessary. Be sure to take a class or two in speech and plant biology as well.

  3. Step 3

Get an internship at a zoo. Most have an internship program.

  4. Step 4

Specialize your education. If you're interested in working with gorillas someday, take classes in primatology or anthropology. If you would like to care for dolphins, take courses in marine biology.

  5. Step 5

Enter a professional training program from the Association of Zoos and Aquariums.

  6. Step 6

Be prepared to move. Even large cities usually only have one zoo and the closest zoo to you may not be hiring when you're looking for a job. Send your resume to lots of zoos.
