Agoraphobia is thought to be another form of panic attack. Loosely translated, it means "fear of the marketplace." Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Aromatherapy candles or oils
  • Massage therapist
  • Qualified physician
  1. Step 1

Use deep breathing as a way to calm yourself when a feeling of panic overtakes you. Breathe in the relaxing air and breathe out the fearful air.

  2. Step 2

Combine deep breathing with progressive muscle relaxation techniques. Start with the muscles in your feet, contract and relax slowly. Move up your body to your legs, abdomen, arms and head. Breathe deeply and slowly as you relax all of the muscles in your body.

  3. Step 3

Meditate to bring all of the feelings you are having regarding agoraphobia together in one small space and concentrate on ridding yourself of this panic disorder. You can sit in a quiet place to meditate or even walk in a calming area that appeals to you, such as a park or by a waterfront.

  4. Step 4

Reduce stress, which causes panic attacks and agoraphobia, by taking a long warm bath, listening to restful and relaxing music, gazing at a beautiful scene that you love or incorporating aromatherapy to relax your mind and body.

  5. Step 5

Find a massage therapist who is certified and begin to learn that massage can be therapeutic and not simply a luxury in which to indulge. You can also simply massage your temples slowly to take away a feeling of panic brought on by agoraphobia.

Tips & Warnings
  • Consider leaving your home with whomever makes you feel comfortable and safe. This action may ward off panic attacks.
  • If agoraphobia has left you unable to even leave your home, you will need to seek professional advice immediately. You can be helped.
