Attending a Broadway show is an experience that everyone should be able to enjoy, but often the cost of tickets is so high that many people can not afford to go. The theaters wanted to give everyone a chance to see even their most popular shows, so they created Standing Room Only tickets. Follow these steps and you can enjoy a Broadway show at a fraction of the price.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • Comfortable shoes
  • Cash
  • ID

Step1
Know what to expect. Standing Room Only tickets do not guarantee that you will get an actual seat in the theater, only that you will get into the theater and get to see the show. There are numbered spaces the width of regular seats marked out behind the orchestra seats or behind the mezzanine seats. This is where you will stand.
Step2
Decide what show you would like to see. Standing Room Only tickets are usually only made available if the show is sold out. The more popular a show is, the more likely that it will sell out and you can try to get a ticket.
Step3
Research the theater's Standing Room Only policies. Some theaters only sell Standing Room Only tickets to students and require valid student IDs.
Step4
Find out when the box office opens. Most Broadway theaters open at 10:00 am Monday through Saturday and noon on Sunday.
Step5
Check the payment policies. Many box offices will only accept cash for Standing Room Only tickets.
Step6
Show up early. This step is crucial to getting a ticket. You must arrive at the box office on the day of the performance and wait in line. It is common to wait in line a couple of hours to get tickets to some of the more popular shows.
Step7
Enjoy the show.

Tips & Warnings

  • There's no way to know for sure if a show is going to sell out, but you can call the box office a few hours before curtain time and ask how ticket sales are that day.
  • Sometimes you can find an empty seat once the show is well into the first act.
  • You can't return or exchange tickets once you've bought them.
  • Lost tickets are not the theater's responsibility.
