Enjoy the rich sound and beautiful picture of your DVD player longer by using the proper maintenance. Like the engine on your car, the more miles you put on a DVD player's laser, the more likely it will pick up detritus. Dust or dirt particles randomly floats into the disc tray every time you open it and can also be acquired through exchange with various discs you play. Over time you will need to clean the laser in your DVD player.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy

Step1
Create an airtight enclosure for your DVD laser, and you can probably avoid the necessity to clean it. However, you'll probably find it hard to get a disc in, let alone make it play. Dust particles in the air, hair, moisture and a multitude of other airborne contaminants can disrupt the DVD laser's performance.
Step2
Check that the disc you are experiencing problems with does the same thing on another player, like your computer's. If so, you have a bad disc and no amount of cleaning is going to fix that. If you are assured that the disc is not the problem, time to clean the laser in the DVD player.
Step3
Buy a quality DVD lens cleaner that utilizes a brush or series of brushes to clean.
Step4
Run the cleaner through your DVD as per the instructions.
Step5
Utilize the cleaner dependent upon how often you use your DVD player and according to how clean you keep your DVDs.
