Stuffing, or dressing, a staple with turkey dinner, can be a meal on its own. This substantial, easy-to-make dish can be a stand-alone and a great way to use up leftovers. It's also handy for entertaining vegetarians because you can easily make stuffing without meat or meat products. With these basic steps, you can create your own leftover stuffing.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bread
  • Vegetables
  • Meat (optional)
  • Consommé, apple juice or other liquid
  • One or two eggs
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Baking dish
  1. Step 1

Break some bread. Find some old bread or bread-like food. Old, stale bread is good for stuffing, or dressing, but you can also use crackers, cornbread, pizza crusts, hamburger rolls, biscuits or almost anything you have laying around. Break it up in a large bowl.

  2. Step 2

Chop a few vegetables. Onions and celery are the traditional stuffing vegetables, but you can use any leftover vegetables you have or even frozen mixed veggies. Chop the vegetables into small pieces and mix them in with the bread.

  3. Step 3

Add your choice of liquid. Consommé will add a familiar flavor, but anything from water to apple juice will work. Add enough liquid to moisten the other ingredients and give the mixture a muddy texture.

  4. Step 4

Use some meat if you like. Chop up a leftover piece of steak, crumble a hamburger or frizzle some ground turkey. Meat isn't necessary, but if you choose to add some, it should be already cooked.

  5. Step 5

Crack an egg to hold it together. Break an egg into the bowl and mix well.

  6. Step 6

Press the mixture into a greased baking dish and bake at 350 degrees until it has turned brown on top and slightly pulled away from the sides of the pan.

Tips & Warnings
  • Experiment with different flavor combinations.
  • You may saute the vegetables before adding to the stuffing, but this isn't necessary.
  • If your mixture turns out too wet, add a second egg to help firm it up when it cooks.
  • A deeper baking dish will result in moister stuffing.
  • Don't add raw meat to the stuffing.
