Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Things You’ll Need:
- Tape measure
- Computer with Internet access
Step1
Measure the height and width of your fireplace opening. Write down the measurements. Measure the fireplace opening again to make sure you did it correctly.
Step2
Decide if you want a single-panel or multi-panel screen. Single-panel screens fit flat across the fireplace opening while multi-panel screens curve around your fireplace opening. Add 10 to 12 inches in width and 3 to 5 inches in height to your measurements for a multi-panel screen to fit properly.
Step3
Decide if you would like a mesh or glass screen. Mesh screens protect against most airborne sparks and allows maximum heat circulation. Glass screens protect the best against sparks but allow little heat circulation.
Step4
Shop for different styles of fireplace screens next. Select one that complements your room decor such as contemporary, antique or traditional. Go to FireplaceScreens.com to get a feel for which styles interest you.
Step5
Select a screen with handles if you like to adjust your fire logs often. It makes your job easier if you can just lift the screen up and away.
