Start a tradition this year by letting your children make their own ice cream cone Christmas ornaments. These decorations are simple to make, requiring minimal adult supervision and few supplies. Have the child sign and date the bottom of the cone making a lasting memory of this fun project.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Purchase ice cream cones, plastic spoons and candy sprinkles at the grocery store.

  2. Step 2

Go to your local crafts store and purchase plain glass ball Christmas ornaments in solid colors that will fit snugly in the ice cream cones. Also buy ornament hangars, 1 can of clear spray varnish, craft glue and brown and white acrylic craft paint.

  3. Step 3

Spread plastic bags outdoors and set the ice cream cones upside down on the plastic. With adult supervision, spray the cones lightly with 2 coats of clear spray varnish. Allow to dry thoroughly after each coat.

  4. Step 4

Run a line of glue around the rim of the ice cream cone and press glass Christmas ornament into glue making sure that the hangar is on the top. At this point, remove the hangar and set aside until later.

  5. Step 5

Thin the acrylic paint with a little water. With a plastic spoon, drizzle the paint on the top of the ornament allowing it to drip down the sides like sauce. The brown paint is for chocolate sauce and the white paint for vanilla.

  6. Step 6

Drop candy sprinkles on top of the paint while it is still wet. Let dry thoroughly, then replace hangar on top.

Tips & Warnings
  • All shapes of ice cream cones can be used for this project. Large waffle cones even look great. Just make sure you purchase glass ornaments in the proper sizes to fit the cones.
  • For a cute and different Christmas gift, wrap several ice cream cone ornaments in bright tissue paper and place in a plastic ice cream tub with a big bow on the top!
