Himalayans, also known as Colorpoint Longhairs, were originally brought up to combine the Persian coat and body qualities with the Siamese coloration in one breed. Himalayans are considered very desirable because of their soft coats and gentle personalities. Here's how to know if you have one.

Instructions

Difficulty: Easy
Step1
Rub the belly. Himalayans are medium- to large-sized cats and often have fat reserves around their stomachs.
Step2
Check the floor. Himalayan cats are playful but tend to amuse themselves in localized areas. These cats are not muscular and play games that do not involve a great deal of running.
Step3
Run your fingers through the hair. This breed has a Persian coat. It is very long and tangles easily. Himalayans' fur is very soft—it has a downy underlayer that thins in the summer but never completely goes away.
Step4
Watch its eyes. The eyes of a Himalayan are bright blue. They are, at times, a brilliant green with blue highlights. They are large and often look concerned or inquisitive.
Step5
Type the build. These cats' bodies tend to sit low on their legs. They are broad-chested and have wide shoulders and hind quarters to match.
Step6
Count the colors. This breed comes in a variety of colors including blue, blue-cream, blue lynx, cream point, chocolate, red, seal or dark bitter chocolate and tortie.

Tips & Warnings

  • Himalayan cats are sensitive to the emotional state and general disposition of their families. These cats are aware of people's needs and can alter their own behaviors accordingly.
  • Himalayans like toys that involve human interaction.
  • This breed requires frequent and thorough brushing to keep its hair from matting.
  • Remember to occasionally check the anus of a Himalayan to ensure there is no excrement tangled in the fur close to there.
