Decorating one of the main rooms in your house for Christmas, like the dining room, can make easy work of getting into the holiday spirit. Learn how to decorate a dining room for Christmas, and make each meal you have there special and festive.

Step1
Choose a theme or color scheme for the dining room. Decide if you want a traditional theme or maybe a more formal theme for the dining room.
Step2
Set the table with Christmas dinnerware and leave the places set. Leaving the table set at all times will give the feeling that a festive meal is about to take place.
Step3
Place candles on the table and around the room to add inviting smells to the décor. You can find Christmas candles in seasonal colors and scents at most craft stores.
Step4
Create a Christmas centerpiece for the table. You can use a Christmas flower arrangement (real or silk), a store-bought centerpiece or create your own with Christmas decorations from around your house.
Step5
Use a festive-colored tablecloth and placemats on the table. Coordinate them with the colors on the Christmas dishes. This will add color to the entire room.
Step6
Hang small Christmas ornaments from the light fixtures if you can safely attach them.

Tips & Warnings

  • Instead of buying dinnerware with Christmas prints, go for solid red, green and white pieces. You can mix them together to look very seasonal, but still use them as separate sets other times of the year.
  • Don't place candles too close to ribbons, wreaths or other decorations that may catch fire.
