Hotel loyalty programs are great for guests who travel frequently and accumulate reward points to use toward upgrades and free stays. Even if you're only an occasional traveler, you can redeem points for other kinds of rewards, such as gift certificates, from these programs. You don't always have to stay in a hotel to earn points. You can increase your reward balance by taking advantage of corporate partnerships and retail offers such as credit cards.

Hotel Partner Programs

Hotels partner with car rental agencies and airlines to induce customers to earn reward points when they travel. For example, the Radisson Hotel chain has the Club Carlson Rewards Program, which you can join during your first stay or even before you make a reservation. The hotel program partners with some 24 airlines, including Air Canada, Delta and Southwest, as well as several car rental agencies such as Alamo, Avis and Enterprise. You can earn Gold Points toward program rewards by flying one of the partner airlines or renting a car from one of the partner agencies and providing your Club Carlson membership number.

Hotel Retail Offers

Earn hotel points by applying for and using a specific credit card marketed by the hotel's rewards program. The Citi Hilton HHonors reward card gives you points toward stays in the Hilton family of hotels, and the Marriott Rewards credit card allows you to work toward free nights every time you use it. Take advantage of offers for products and services as well. For example, the Hilton rewards program gives you points when you buy insurance from Liberty Mutual.
