Whether you're headed to the Windy City or the confluence of the Mississippi and Ohio Rivers, traveling with a pet in Illinois doesn't have to be complicated or difficult. Locate pet friendly hotels in Illinois and plan ahead for a stress-free vacation.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Choose a destination in Illinois. You may want to see the sights in Chicago or hike through the Shawnee National Forest. Deciding on what you'd like to see and do before your trip allows you to book hotel rooms in advance and to research other pet friendly businesses and activities in the areas that you'll be in.

  2. Step 2

Call the local Chamber of Commerce or tourist office in the areas that you'll be visiting. Some offices may have pet friendly hotels and businesses listed online.

  3. Step 3

Search online for pet friendly hotels in Illinois. Dog Friendly is a good website to begin with, although there are many other sites that contain listings. For travel to Chicago, check out the Urban Hound website that has information on pet friendly businesses and activities in the Windy City. You may also find websites for particular hotels or other accommodations which allow pets.

  4. Step 4

Read through travel guides or books on pet friendly travel. Your local library or bookstore may carry guides that focus on traveling with your pet and list pet friendly accommodations throughout the United States.

  5. Step 5

Check with the hotels you are interested in about whether pets are welcome and what their specific pet policy is. Choose the hotel that is the best fit for you based on price, amenities and location. Book your room and let the hotel know that you will be bringing a pet. Some hotels offer special treats or goodies for pets on the road.

Tips & Warnings
  • If you have to leave your pet to sight see, check with the hotel about their policies on pets alone in the room. Some hotels do not allow pets to be left and you will need to make arrangements with a pet day care or other boarding facility. Some hotels will allow pets alone if they are crated.
