Barbecue meatballs make a great hot appetizer for a party. You can also make a meal by creating saucy meatball subs. Either way, it's a recipe your family and friends are sure to love and best of all, they are easy to make. Grab your crock-pot, all the ingredients and get started.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Things You’ll Need:

  • 1 lb. ground hamburger
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 16 oz. barbecue sauce
  • 30 oz. tomato sauce
  • 1 tbsp. garlic powder
  • 1 tsp. parsley flakes
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1/4 cup tabasco sauce (optional)
  • Crock-pot

Step1
Mix the uncooked ground meat, two eggs and breadcrumbs in a bowl.
Step2
Make the meatballs by taking a small spoonful of the meat mixture and rolling it between your hands to create a ball. You may opt to make larger, but fewer, meatballs rather than more of the smaller ones.
Step3
Place the meatballs on a greased pan and bake at 350 degrees for 10 minutes or until the meatballs are fully cooked and golden brown.
Step4
Pour tomato sauce, barbecue sauce and optional Tabasco sauce into the crock-pot. Stir in the garlic, parsley and bay leaf.
Step5
Stir in the meatballs so that each one is fully coated by the barbecue sauce.
Step6
Cook the meatballs on a low setting for approximately 4 hours, stirring occasionally.

Tips & Warnings

  • To bypass making the meatballs from scratch, you purchase frozen pre-made meatballs. These meatballs come in several bag sizes and can be found in the freezer section of most grocery stores.
  • To make a meatball sub, purchase sub roll bread and your favorite kind of cheese. Slice the sub roll almost nearly in half and then toast lightly. Spoon in meatballs with the sauce and top with cheese. Microwave for 30 seconds to one minute or until the cheese has melted.
