How to Eliminate Stress

Stress is the mental or emotional strain that occurs when the demands in your life are greater than your ability to meet them. Although stress begins as an emotional or mental strain, it can lead to physical problems over time if it is not relieved.

Instructions

Difficulty: Moderate

Step1
Just say "no." Many people feel guilty if they refuse more projects at work or more volunteer activities in their communities. But too many demands, and too much stress, can lead to physical problems that might make it impossible to be productive in the future. So just say no sometimes and give someone else a chance to step up.
Step2
Exercise regularly. Regular exercise activates certain neurochemicals in the brain that allow people to better cope with stress.
Step3
Eat a healthy diet. Eating healthy foods will help you feel better and give you more energy to meet the demands in your life.
Step4
Surround yourself with beauty. Be conscious of the lighting in your home and the environment in your home. If the natural world invigorates you, make it a point to get out for a walk whenever you can.
Step5
Control your thoughts. Negative thoughts can create stress in your life. You can control your mind--it just takes discipline and practice. When a negative thought pops up, try turning it into a positive one.

Tips & Warnings

  • Find activities that eliminate stress for you. You might try meditation, yoga, or a weekly massage.
