Step 1
Buy generic products. If a generic or store brand option is available, always choose it. Most of the time, both products use the same recipe and you are paying extra money for the name only.
-
Step 2
Clip coupons. Go through your newspaper circulars and cut out any applicable coupons. To find even more coupons, go online to a website such as Coupon Cabin and print out their grocery coupons.
-
Step 3
Look on the lower shelves. Many times shoppers will only buy products found at eye level. Cheaper stock is usually found on the lower shelves in grocery store aisles.
-
Step 4
Eat before you go grocery shopping. You will spend less money at a grocery store if you shop when you are not hungry and are not tempted to buy more food.
-
Step 5
Make a detailed list. Only purchase items that will be used in specific recipes that you plan to make.
-
Step 6
Shop alone. Bringing along children or your spouse to the grocery store will make you spend more money on the items that they want that aren't on your list.

on 5/6/2009 Great tips. Another alternitive to printing coupons is on Krogers web site. They let you download coupon to your shopping card. I hope other store start to do this soon. But don't go out of your way to buy something just for the coupon. A Coupon is only good if it is an item that you would need.
