1
Find a gym or fitness center. Ask for a list of aerobics classes or download one on the Internet. Also look at local colleges and community centers, which sometimes offer health and fitness classes for little or no fee.
-
2
Look at the lists of classes offered at the various centers. Highlight those that look fun and interesting. Think about what you want from a workout and see if a class description matches your wants and needs.
-
3
Check the intensity and impact levels of the classes that interest you. If you are a beginner, look for low to medium intensity and impact levels and "beginner" classes.
-
4
Ask about a free trial. Many fitness centers will allow you to try out the classes before you buy a membership. This is perfect if you are nervous about spending money up front without knowing what you are getting.
-
5
Go to a couple of the classes that you think best fit your interests and fitness level. You may find that one works better with your schedule and leaves you feeling more energized afterward. Ultimately choose a class that works with your existing schedule-don't overload yourself at the beginning.

Tips & Warnings
Take a friend or co-worker along if you are nervous about going to a class alone. Sometimes aerobics classes can be intimidating when everyone else seems to know what he or she is doing. Having someone with you will make you both more comfortable.
No matter what your gender, fitness level or size, try not to let the other class members intimidate you. Aerobics classes are meant for group participation but are still individual exercise programs. Instructors are trained to help you get the most out of the program.
Talk to the instructor if you are just starting fitness classes or if you have any issues such as knee or back problems, or if you are pregnant. He or she can give you tips on modifying certain movements.
Avoid advanced or highly choreographed classes if you are a beginner or are fairly uncoordinated. If you push yourself too far in the beginning you will get frustrated. It is best to start slower and work your way up to those more challenging classes. Just think about how great you will feel when you can do it.
