How to Take an Army Warrior Transition Course

If you're on active duty or previously served in the U.S. Navy, Air Force or Coast Guard and want to transfer to the Army, you must complete the Army's Warrior Transition Course (WTC.) The intensive four-week training session held in Fort Knox, Kentucky is designed to instill a strong sense of core Army values, a warrior ethos, discipline, physical stamina, leadership and teamwork.

Instructions

    • 1

Check with your local Army recruiter to determine if you're required to attend the Warrior Transition Course. Once you enlist, your recruiting commander schedules your WTC session and then notifies your unit.

    • 2

Ensure you meet the course requirements, including being physically fit, meeting height and weight requirements and having completed a minimum prior term of service of three years.

    • 3

Travel to Fort Knox, Kentucky when you are scheduled. Upon your arrival you're assigned to a platoon with at least three instructors, who serve as your teachers, mentors and role models. During the course, they help you achieve a high level of proficiency in core tasks, weapons and tactics.

Graduate from the WTC once you satisfy all requirements. You can find all graduation requirements and more on the Army Study Guide website or the U.S. Army Info website.

Tips & Warnings

  • You're also required to take the WTC if you are a prior Army or Marine serviceman, who has had at least a three year break from service.

  • The Army Study Guide website has a sample course outline to give you an idea of each day's training schedule.

  • On the U.S. Army Information website, you'll find the complete Policies and Procedures manual, which is required reading for all WTC students. This manual lists all files, documentation and orders you'll need to have on hand when arriving in Fort Knox.

  • You will be denied entrance into the WTC course if you haven't served at least three years of prior U.S. military service.

I am going through the process of enlisting now. I have one year prior service and noone has given me any information on this. They said that I would have togo through some warrior training but not what it is exactly. Can you give me any real information on this and are those the only two training areas?

It is not true that you will be denied entrance into WTC if you haven't served at least 3 years of prior U.S. Military Service. I use to be Air Force. I've been out for 8 years and I only did 8 months (long story) in, I just entered the Army Reserve, and they are sending me to WTC. WTC is also no longer held at FT Knox KY, its at Ft. Sill OK and White Sands NM.
