How to Join a Military Apprenticeship Program
The Unites Services Military Apprenticeship Program (USMAP) provides active duty Marine Corps, Navy and Coast Guard servicemen on the job training and technical instruction in their current job and prepares them for a future civilian job in more than 125 occupations. The program is free and requires no off-duty hours. As long as you qualify, joining is easy if you follow these steps.

1
Find out if you qualify for the USMAP program. You must be on active duty with the Marine Corps, Navy or Coast Guard, be designated in a Rating/MOS and have a high school diploma or GED.
-
2
Calculate if you have enough time left on active duty to complete the program. Each apprenticeship requires 2,000 to 10,000 work hours, depending on the type of job or trade. It takes about one year to complete 2,000 work hours.

3
Make sure your selected trade is directly related to your current military occupational specialty. You may only register for one trade at a time; however, once you complete your first apprenticeship, you may register for a second.

4
Submit your USMAP application on their website or mail a completed CNET Form 1560/1 to the USMAP office at Commanding Officer, 6490 Saufley Field Road, Pensacola, FL 320509-5251AP.

Wait for your approval, at which time you'll receive all your program materials in the mail or an email with detailed instructions.
