Instructions

Fabric Covered Chair
-
1
Trim a toilet paper tube into a slipper chair shape by trimming a seat area 2 inches from the bottom and creating a curve for the back.
-
2
Pack the center of the tube with foam, cotton or crumpled paper to fill the seat area.
-
-
3
Apply spray adhesive to the whole chair base and cover with a thin layer of batting.
-
4
Spray again with the adhesive and apply the upholstery material over the batting.
-
5
Trim away the excess fabric along the curve of the back and along the edges. Cover the raw edges by gluing a silk cord along the edges of the chair and around the seat base.
-
6
Cut two small circles from the upholstery fabric to make a seat cover. Add a small amount of batting inside the two circles and hot glue together. Add the silk cording around the seat cushion as well.
-
7
Make several French knots in the seat cushion, creating tufting.
-
8
Glue the seat cushion to the seat, covering all the raw material.
Wood chair
-
9
Cut a 1 ¼ inch by 1 ¼ square section from balsa wood for the seat. Cut two small notches in one side that will help the seat fit against the back section.
-
10
Trim balsa wood square sticks to several lengths. You will need two front legs measuring 1 3/8 inches, two back legs measuring at 2 7/8 inches and five 1 inch sections for the seat base and the top edge of the chair.
-
11
Assemble the seat base by gluing together four of the 1 inch sections into a square. Let the glue dry completely.
-
12
Secure the front and back legs by gluing the sections to the front and back of the seat base.
-
13
Add the seat to the completed chair. Paint or decorate if you like.
Ottoman
-
14
Glue three corks together for your ottoman base.
-
15
Cut a 6-inch round section of velvet and place over the top of the corks.
-
16
Hot glue the fabric to the bottom of the corks and trim away the excess.
-
17
Thread a small button onto a long piece of embroidery floss. Sew the button onto the top of the ottoman and secure the thread to the bottom of the ottoman, pulling it tightly.
-
18
Trace the shape of the ottoman form onto a piece of cardstock for the base. Glue it securely to the base of the ottoman.
