Instructions
  1. Step 1

Have your carpet professionally steam cleaned at least once a year. This will keep your carpet soft, clean and looking good.

  2. Step 2

Discourage people from wearing shoes in your house. Hang a sign on your front door or next to it that says, "Please Remove Your Shoes."

  3. Step 3

Make sure that people do not eat anywhere except in the kitchen. If your dining room is carpeted, put a vinyl mat under the table so falling food does not get embedded in your carpet.

  4. Step 4

Clean up any spills on your carpet immediately. Blot up the excess liquid and then use a carpet cleaner such as Resolve to thoroughly clean the spill.

  5. Step 5

Vacuum regularly. Try to vacuum everyday so that loose particles do not embed themselves into your carpet and make it appear dirtier than it is.

  6. Step 6

Invest in a carpet shampooer. Compared to the cost of new ,it's not expensive and will extend the life of your carpet. It's useful to have around for serious spills on your carpet and for households with children or pets who can dirty a carpet quickly.
