How to Join the British Liberal Democrats

The British Liberal Democrats are the third-largest political party in Britain. Generally speaking, they are a social liberalist party, stemming from the 1988 merger of the Liberal Party and the Social Democratic Party. It is viewed as a party of the centre-left, supporting multi-lateral foreign policies and emphasising environmental issues. It is very simple to join the British Liberal Democrats. Here’s how.

  1. Step 1

    Go to www.libdems.org.uk. This site contains relevant information on the aims, policies and campaigns of the party.

  2. Step 2

    Click on the heading “Join/Support." Here you will find the various ways you can support the party.

  3. Step 3

    Click on the first heading, “Joining or Donating." You can join the party online by credit card, by direct debit, over the phone or by cheque or postal order. It is simplest to do so online.

  4. Step 4

    Fill in your name, address, email address and phone number.

  5. Step 5

    Select how much you wish to donate to the party. To join the party you must donate at least £9 as an adult, or £6 as a concessionary. You qualify as a concessionary only if you receive state benefit (except child benefit or a state pension), or if you are a student, in full-time education or are under 26.

  6. Step 6

    Select the option “yes, I do want to join”. Submit the details of a valid credit or debit card. These will be processed online. Receive your membership card in 1 to 2 weeks.
